Close to $60bn-worth of green hydrogen and ammonia schemes have been announced in the MENA region since July 2020

In the latest boost to the UAE’s hydrogen economy, Helios Industry, a TAQA and ADQ (Abu Dhabi Ports) JV is developing the UAE’s first renewable ammonia plant at KIZAD Abu Dhabi using ThyssenKrupp’s electrolysis technology.

US$1 billion is being invested and 200,000 tpa will be produced powered by a 2GW solar farm. South Korea’s Korea Electric Power Corporation, Samsung C&T Corporation and Korea Western Power are teaming up with the UAE’s Petrolyn Chemie to construct the facility.  in the latest boost to the UAE’s hydrogen economy.

This follows ADNOC’s announcement of a 1 million tpa blue ammonia production facility at the TA’ZIZ chemicals hub in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi. Due for start-up in 2025, OCI’s nitrogen fertilizer technology will play a key role via the Fertiglobe JV as will CCS technology.  

ADQ has also intends to add pink hydrogen to the mix at the Barakat nuclear facility in Abu Dhabi, owned by Emirates Nuclear Energy Company (ENEC)

HFI’s is establishing its HFI Net Zero Legal Solutions office at MASDAR in Abu Dhabi to support CCS and hydrogen ventures.
